RSEC conducts trainings and workshops to enable higher education institutions, research performing organizations, and government stakeholders to:

  • Protect intellectual property
  • Prevent illicit technology transfer
  • Establish best practices to safeguard knowledge, data, and technology

All RSEC workshops are free of charge. Participants that attend an RSEC workshop will receive a certificate of completion from Sandia National Laboratories.

Research Security and Due Diligence in Academia

RSEC’s Research Security and Due Diligence in Academia workshop series is offered to university administrators, staff members dedicated to research administration, oversight, or integrity, and faculty members or researchers in critical science, technology, engineering, or mathematics (STEM) fields.

Workshop curriculum focuses on defining the threat posed to universities and research institutes by foreign malign actors and outlining best practices in governance, values, research partnerships, and personnel, physical, and cyber security to address this threat. The workshop includes an interactive exercise that allows participants to apply due diligence measures to three fictional applicants for university research positions.

The Research Security and Academic Due Diligence for Policymakers workshop series invites government officials in education, research and innovation, entrepreneurship, and science and technology to learn about national research security oversight. Participants will gain an understanding of the evolving regulatory environment for research and will discuss how to improve collaboration with universities and research institutions in their country.
